This makes me curious about the status of Skadi or Tyr in this interpretation, since they’re Jötnar as well (and unlike Loki, don’t even have an Aesir parent)
The poem Hymiskviða in the Poetic Edda recounts Tyr and Thor going to the home of the Jötunn Hymir, Tyr’s father, to get a cauldron for a feast. Hymir’s wife is also there and is unnamed, but is presumably also a Jötunn.
It is almost entirely irrelevant for anything else as the sources don’t treat this as a barrier to becoming one of the Aesir.
According to the Prose and Poetic Eddas, as well as Ynglinga saga’s alternate no-gods-allowed version, the Vanir hostage is Njördr, father of Frey and Freyja (so presumably they came along), I am not aware of any source that puts either Týr or Skadi in the story.
Týr’s family history is in Hymiskviða, where he and Thor visits his father, a Jötun, as well as other Jötnar relatives, he isn’t ever described as one of the Vanir.
Skadi does get married to Njördr according to Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál, but this is as recompense for the gods killing her father, Thjazi and she picks a husband in Asgard (she had specifically wanted Baldr, but she had to pick while only being able to see their feet), which suggests this is sometime after the hostage exchange.
I appreciate everyone’s jumping in to discuss but TMK has already diverted from the myths in some respects so there’s really no way to know until they show up. :3 If they do lol.

Tyr’s a Juton?

Skadi and Tyr were Vanir, I thought. Hostages that ended the war between Aesir and Vanir. Along with Frey and Freya.
Freya’s wife, Gerdr, was a Jotuness, but she’s only mentioned once, and seems to not have any god-like duties. Much like Angerboda.

I’m sensing the boastful reveal that will doom Loki coming.
Nah, things are fiiiine.
“Their biggest weakness, I have learned, is that they’re almost all really horrific assholes”
But is that really a weakness?
That is a concerning commonality among them.
“Oh, so you fit right in!”
This story arc is making me sad 🙁
Good. >:3
Man, things are getting heated. Sure hope Loki doesn’t vent by challenging all of Asgard to the world’s most epic ancient Norse rap battle.
Yeah what a mess that would be.
