Oh Coal, consider the facts here. You literally are the reason she is no longer a slave and you have saved her life a few times. You have said on multiple occasions that she is an amazing person. Of Course she is going to be in love with you.
Well, he’s also a bloodthirsty berserker, whom she has seen butchering five men like they were cattle. That would be a deal-breaker for most people.
It would be a dealbreaker for you and me, but maybe much less so in this time and place.
… five men of the same sort as the ones who tried to sacrifice her. That´s an important distinction.
He also belongs to that sort of men. And has demonstrated that when the rage takes him, he doesn’t make a difference between friends and foe.
Coal seems to be having tremendous difficulty with his afterlifestyle lately. I don’t think he much likes the person he’s been, and we’ve seen him making a personal effort to change what he is. Is it any wonder that he’s shocked that Saoirse likes the person she’s seen when he doesn’t himself?
Like a kind of Florence Nightingale syndrome.
