Not really sure why you’da thought that. Smart leaders do NOT surround themselves with slack jawed, knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, drooling troglodytes. And ppl tend to follow the example their leaders give them.
Well, a truly smart leader knows how to make the best use of whoever they can get. I’m guessing Agnar didn’t have a lot of choices. And, troglodytic as they may be, their bullying would have been very effective if it weren’t for Coal’s unexpected appearance.
Agnar is still an idiot, though. He now has more than enough information to know that something truly extraordinary is going on with Coal, and yet he is trying to bully him as if he was a normal teenager who just got lucky.
This guy might not be smart, but he is really really good at manipulating people and making them react. Remember, Coal did die in battle, he’s an undead warrior but still 15(?).
This guy can do some real damage, even if it’s just by distracting him while his goons attack elsewhere.
Miyamoto Musashi thought it useful… and to answer CJG and Plastic insect, Musashi was basically an untrained amateur… just REALLY good at stacking the deck in his favor… (or embellishing the story about his life… take your pick.)
For a while there, I was holding on to the idea that Agnar was the smart one, or at least much smarter than his men.
Nope, I was wrong. He’s dumber than a bag of rocks.

Very dumb.
Coal is gonna make this extra now isn’t he?
Anyone got a raincoat?
The most extra.

That would be a good idea.
I’m just… gonna go hide behind this umbrella.
Also a good idea!
I think that angering your opponent usually makes them fight worse, but fantasy changes that a lot of the time.

It might work on someone who wasn’t also a berserker.
