Depends? While a great deal of small beer was consumed Ibrahim cannot drink it as a devout Muslim. Though there is some doctrinal flexibility there and ‘m sure you could find some mullahs to debate about it.
As for the water being unsafe, depends on the source. Medieval people knew generally how to avoid biological contamination.
Water was almost always safe for locals who’d already survived it … but yes And similardoctrinal flexibility exists to this day. Lots of Central Asians denounce wine, meaning specifically just wine, not vodka and other delivery systems for spiritus (or, even more often in areas nearby, opiates).
