Coal: In my day, webcomics were carved in stones.

Also: I don’t know if I told you Happy Birthday, so happy belated birthday! 😀

I would be one of those new people 😀

Love the comic btw, I’m a HUGE norse mythology fan and think this is a great take on it 🙂

How do you get to #39 on TWC and I haven’t been able to find the link since you put up the page for the plush toy?

I only had the TWC thing up for the first week of the month, then I took it down. You can see the incentive on my Tumblr, though!

I love the smoke rising up in the middle of the page! It’s a really cool way to separate the panels. 🙂 Hmm, now I’m curious as to whether we’ll ever find out Coal’s real name.

Thanks! It was fun trying out that layout. And don’t worry, we’ll discover Coal’s real name eventually!

    “Humperdink! Humperdink! Humperdink!” 🙂

He is still just a young boy, after all. And a surly little brat at times, for reasons we’re slowly beginning to learn. But mostly he showed his true nature when he became the answer to Hedda’s prayer. When we act like that, without thinking, that’s when we’re most ourselves. I think Hedda wants to like him. Maybe he just doesn’t know how to take that in gracefully.

I love this comic. When I was a kid, my folks got an extraordinary book for us called “The Golden Treasury Of Myths And Legends” by Anne Terry White. I must believe that you are familiar with it, as it can still be found on Amazon and other places. It was my introduction to all the great pantheons, including the Norse legends of Sigurd, the Volsung Saga and Beowulf. The lavish, beautifully stylized illustrations are the best part of the book, and your own style seems reminiscent of it.

I hadn’t heard of that book, so I had to look it up, but it does look gorgeous! It has that same kind of flat, iconic style as mine, and very colorful. I might have to go looking for that. Also, glad you’re enjoying the comic! And Coal, too. 😀 Thank you so much!

I’m uncreative with comments, so I rarely do, just stopping by to say I love how you used the smoke to separate Panels, yey for creative paneling =)

Ugh, the suspense is killing me! Can’t wait to see Hedda’s reaction to finding out she’s hosted by a family of Pagan gods.

I love how much emotion you get across just through the shape of Coal’s eyes. 🙂

Thanks! Even though the primary emotion is “disgruntlement”.

It’s nice to see Hedda actually being happy, and not in constant frightened submission for once.

I’ve been wanting to ask you this for awhile, but there never seemed a good time, so I’ll just ask now: Since Loki seems to be the main god of your story, and you focused on his lovable/comical rogue characteristics (instead of him being a devilish villain like other Norse-based stories I’ve seen), I was curious as to your opinion of the characteristics/personalities of the other Norse gods.

Yeah I like drawing Hedda smiling. Coal too! His smiles are much rarer though.

And, well, let’s see. I haven’t developed the other Norse gods much beyond how they already are. Loki’s got a lot more complication to his life than really anyone else, and trying to figure out how he might act and what happened to make him that way was a challenge in itself. Odin, Thor, and most of the rest are pretty straightforward. Odin is clever, devious, and kind of a jerk sometimes. Thor is loud, brash, and not terribly bright. Freyr is mellow, quiet, and just a nice guy. Obviously this is all my interpretation too. The other gods just aren’t quite as deep as Loki, so I haven’t spent as much time thinking about them.

Oh, Hedda is adorable! And the way you handled their dialogue really emphasizes their personalities

Thanks! I definitely wanted to get that across. I’m glad you like Hedda, too! 😀
